CHEERS TO SIX YEARS

Christmas and January are pretty sentimental for me, of course for the obvious reasons: spending time with family, giving and wiping the slate clean. But when I think back six years from now, it was the time when I met my now fiance and yes, to this day, I still get the same butterflies when I know he’s on his way home from work.

We met just before Christmas, he had moved to London 2 months prior and was working in a Pizzeria with little understanding of the English language. He had this amazing sense of confidence accompanied with a great sense of humour. The first thing I took notice of were his piercing eyes. It may sound crazy but I had never seen someone smile with their eyes. He happened to be waiting our table (is that fate calling?) and long story short we exchanged numbers and went on our first date on 1st January 2012 and I have never looked back.

It may be incomprehensible to some, but I don’t know how I lived my entire life without his presence. Someone that was once a stranger, that I didn’t know even existed, now completes me in every possible way. We are very similar in certain things, but also complete opposites in lots of aspects. Opposites attract they say? The things I appreciate most are his loyalty, incredible work ethic and his ability to always always put a smile on my face. How do we make it work? Communicate communicate communicate. Communication is one of the important elements that keeps our bond so strong. It’s pointless to keep things in, bottle things up, register them in your head and release them when you have reached boiling point and ready to explode. That just turns into a big ugly mess. We express how we feel, talk about our emotions and discuss our thoughts. We are bestest of friends and tell eachother everything. Of course there are moments where we disagree, we wouldn’t be human if we didn’t. But, we talk, and get through it. It hasn’t always been rainbows and daisies, we’ve been through some really rough patches, but you know what, I wouldn’t have it any other way because I have an amazing, beautiful man by my side who I call my best friend, partner in crime, advisor, lover and will soon call my husband.

So six years later, here we are. Engaged and getting married this summer. We celebrated our six year anniversary with dinner at Benihana, Japanese restaurant founded by Rocky Aoki in 1964 in New York City. It has now turned into a mega franchise and recognized all over the world for its dazzling performances performed in front of diners by their very own chefs. I had wanted to go for a really long time and we thought this was a great opportunity to try it out.

We received a great show from our chef who cooked our meals directly in front of us. We ordered Sushi, the Seafood Diablo Noodles (which I highly recommend) and the wagyu beef steak. Wagyu beef contains a higher percentage of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids than typical beef. The increased marbling also increases the ratio of monounsaturated fats to saturated fats. The taste was amazing, not too heavy, succulent and very tender, cooked to perfection. I would definitely return to Benihana for a special occasion.

We ended the night with a stroll around Piccadilly Circus, before heading home because of the intensifying rain (what’s new in London?). So that’s how we spent the evening, celebrating one another, spending quality time with good food, laughs and a couple too many drinks 😉
